There’s Something About SHEIN
SHEIN, a popular on-demand retailer, has faced significant challenges in recent times.
Despite its massive market presence in 165 countries and 11,000-strong workforce, the company's net profit has taken a hit, plummeting 40% to $1 billion in 2024, a far cry from its projected $4 billion target.
Its IPO plans in the US have been stalled due to myriad concerns, with lawmakers like Marco Rubio pushing back against the company's bid.
As a result, SHEIN is now pursuing a public listing in London, although it faces intense scrutiny from the UK Parliament.
The company's business model, which offers prices 40-60% lower than competitors like Zara, has also raised concerns about its environmental impact, including the use of non-sustainable materials, production of a staggering number of styles, and reliance on air cargo.
